Dennis Severs' House is a Georgian terraced house that functions as a living, three-dimensional historical novel. When American artist Dennis Severs purchased the dilapidated property in nineteen seventy-nine, he moved in with nothing but a candle, a chamber pot, and a bedroll. He spent the next two decades transforming the interior into an immersive, sensory-rich experience rather than a typical museum. Every room is staged to suggest that an imaginary family of Huguenot silk weavers has just stepped out of the room, leaving behind half-eaten meals, scattered belongings, and the lingering scents of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
