Millstream House

You are standing before Millstream House, a residential building on Jamaica Road that carries a strange piece of Westminster history within its own walls. On October 14, 1940, a German bomb struck the northwest corner of this structure during the Blitz, causing significant damage to the building. When the block was restored in 1947, workers installed a gargoyle rescued from the ruins of the Houses of Parliament, which had been hit during the same air raids. A stone tablet remains at the site today, marking this peculiar link between a local Bermondsey home and the iconic halls of government.
