L'Escargot (restaurant)

L'Escargot is a London institution housed within a Georgian townhouse that dates back to 1741. Long before it became a destination for fine French dining, this building served as the private residence of the Duke of Portland. When the restaurant moved into these premises in 1927, it was already well-known for its namesake dish, having become the first establishment in England to serve snails to the public. To ensure the freshest possible ingredients in those early days, the owner famously kept a working snail farm right in the basement of the building.
