Little Ben Clock

Standing at the junction of Vauxhall Bridge Road and Victoria Street, Little Ben was erected in 1892 to serve as a reliable public timepiece for travelers who lacked their own watches. Because Victoria Station sits in a blind spot where commuters rushing for their trains could no longer see the famous clock at the Houses of Parliament, this twenty-foot tall cast-iron tower was created as a localized solution. It was built by the renowned Croydon firm Gillett and Johnston, who were so confident in their ornate design that they registered it as a pattern, though they never received the surge of follow-up orders they expected.
