Equestrian statue of Viscount Wolseley

The bronze equestrian statue standing at Horse Guards Parade honors Field Marshal Garnet Wolseley, a prominent British military leader who served as Commander-in-Chief of the British Army at the turn of the twentieth century. Unveiled in 1920, the sculpture was created by the Welsh artist Sir William Goscombe John. A striking feature of the monument is that it was cast from the metal of cannons captured during the many military campaigns Wolseley led across the globe, physically linking the sculpture to the history of the battles it commemorates.
