The Wilshire Colonnade features a long row of recessed concrete arches that wrap around the building’s base. This structure arrived in nineteen thirty-nine as a luxury office complex for the Getty Oil Company. When the building opened, the local press highlighted its air conditioning system and the private tunnels that connected staff to nearby parking. Today, those tunnels remain sealed beneath the pavement, while the arches serve as a quiet boundary between the fast-moving traffic on Wilshire Boulevard and the lobby doors.
