The Equitable Building rises thirteen stories above Wilshire Boulevard, clad in a distinct, ribbed terra cotta facade that catches the afternoon sun. When it opened in nineteen thirty-five, the structure served as the regional headquarters for the Equitable Life Assurance Society. Architect Aleck Curlett designed the tower in the Zigzag Moderne style, complete with a rooftop neon sign that once functioned as a beacon for passing motorists. Today, the lobby retains its original brass elevator doors and dark, geometric marble flooring.
