The twenty-two story tower at three five five zero Wilshire Boulevard features a distinctive facade of blue-tinted glass and steel. Built in nineteen seventy-two, the structure originally served as the headquarters for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company. Architect Gin Wong designed the building with a slanted glass curtain wall that reflects the changing light of the Los Angeles sky. A notable fire occurred on the twelfth floor in nineteen eighty-two, which drew international attention to the challenges of fighting skyscraper blazes.
