Fort Funston

Fort Funston sits atop two hundred foot tall sandy bluffs that once served as the frontline for San Francisco harbor defense. The United States government acquired this land in 1900, but it remained largely undeveloped until the First World War. It takes its name from Major General Frederick Funston, a decorated officer who gained national fame for leading relief efforts following the 1906 earthquake.
