The Olympic Club stands as the oldest athletic institution in the United States, founded on May 6, 1860. Its origins trace back to a small backyard gymnasium maintained by two German artist brothers, Charles and Arthur Nahl, who sought to promote physical fitness among their friends. During a gathering at a local firehouse on Broadway, these enthusiasts formally organized their group, drawing inspiration for their name from the ancient Greek games.
