Funston Beach

Funston Beach sits at the base of two-hundred-foot cliffs that are constantly reshaping themselves. These towering bluffs are made of soft, sedimentary rock from the Merced Formation, which has been shifting and eroding for millions of years. This relentless process means the landscape you see today is temporary, and it occasionally sends pieces of history tumbling down to the sand below. In recent years, entire World War II-era military bunkers, once perched securely at the cliff's edge, have slid down the sandy slopes to rest near the water as the ocean and rain continue to reclaim the land.
