The Jones Family Gorilla Preserve is located within the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens. It covers nearly an acre of space and has served as a home for generations of Western lowland gorillas since opening in 1980. The habitat features grassy terrain, rocky outcroppings, and large trees designed to encourage natural behaviors among the troop. Because wild gorilla groups typically occupy vast home ranges in the forest, this enclosure is engineered to provide a complex, multi-level environment that remains one of the largest primate habitats in the country.
