Pine Lake is one of the very few remaining natural lakes in San Francisco. It sits in a valley formed by the geologic forces of the region and is fed by the same deep underground aquifer that supports nearby Lake Merced. This freshwater source creates a dense, willow-lined wetland that serves as a quiet refuge for birds traveling along the Pacific Flyway.
