Sigmund Stern Grove occupies a deep, wooded basin that feels worlds away from the surrounding city streets. Long before it became a park, the land was a homestead in the mid-nineteenth century, eventually evolving into a suburban resort known as the Trocadero Inn. This historic building, constructed in 1892, still stands in the grove today and once served as a quiet retreat for visitors looking to escape the bustle of San Francisco.
