Cecil F. Poole House

The house standing at ninety Cedro Avenue is a Craftsman-style home originally built in nineteen eleven as a showpiece for the Ingleside Terraces development. Its designer, Joseph Leonard, founded the neighborhood on the former site of the Ingleside Racetrack and famously marketed it as an exclusive enclave by using restrictive racial covenants. These legal clauses forbade the sale of homes to anyone who was not Caucasian, a barrier that remained in place in the minds of many long after the Supreme Court declared such practices unenforceable in nineteen forty-eight.
