McCoppin Square Park

McCoppin Square Park occupies a stretch of land that serves as a quiet center for the Parkside district. It takes its name from Frank McCoppin, who served as the mayor of San Francisco in the late eighteen sixties. McCoppin holds the distinction of being the first foreign born mayor in the history of the city. Before entering local politics, he worked as a superintendent for the Market Street Railway, where he famously championed the planting of vegetation along tracks to combat the shifting sands that plagued early transportation routes.
