Grand Pacheco Stairway

The Grand Pacheco Stairway serves as a majestic threshold into the Forest Hill neighborhood. Completed around nineteen twelve, it was designed to transform a steep, challenging hillside into a deliberate parklike entrance for residents. Landscape designer Mark Daniels incorporated wide, fifteen-foot steps, curved benches, and decorative urns to give the area the feel of a refined country estate. You can find the base of these stairs at the intersection of Pacheco Street and Magellan Avenue, where a prominent fluted concrete urn often overflows with seasonal plantings. The structure reflects the vision of the neighborhood's original developers, who intended to create a secluded, woodland sanctuary within the city limits.
