Miraloma Steps: Dragon Tale Staircase

The Miraloma Steps, known to locals as the Dragon Tale Staircase, serve as a colorful, functional bridge between Bella Vista Way and Miraloma Elementary School. Completed in July 2020, this public art project transformed a once-dilapidated concrete path into an interactive, educational mosaic. The design features a massive dragon, the school mascot, whose form winds up the entire length of the staircase. You will see the tip of the dragon's tail at the bottom, with its claws and body continuing upward until you reach the head at the top, where the creature appears to breathe fire and smoke. Beyond the central dragon motif, the installation incorporates imagery of the solar system and includes educational elements like counting sequences and inspirational quotes from notable figures, which were selected in collaboration with the school community.
