Doggie Diner

High above the intersection of Sloat Boulevard and 45th Avenue, you will see a seven-hundred-pound fiberglass dachshund head wearing a chef hat and a polka-dotted bow tie. This towering figure is the sole remaining mascot of the Doggie Diner, a beloved fast-food chain that once operated thirty locations across the San Francisco Bay Area. Designed in 1966 by artist Harold Bachman, the statue served as a whimsical landmark for families heading to the nearby zoo or the beach. While the diner itself closed in 1986, the community fought to keep this grinning pup in its original neighborhood, eventually leading to its official designation as a city landmark.
