Last Doggie Diner Head

The fiberglass dachshund head you see here is a lingering icon of a vanished local fast-food empire. Designed by graphic artist Harold Bachman in 1966, this grinning mascot once rotated atop twenty-foot poles at over thirty Doggie Diner locations across the Bay Area. The chain served hot dogs and hamburgers from 1948 until its final closure in 1986, and for decades, these massive, wide-eyed dog heads functioned as familiar landmarks for thousands of commuters.
