Pier 17

Pier 17 was constructed in 1912, making it the third oldest pier along the San Francisco waterfront. It belongs to a historic district of finger piers that once served as the backbone of the city's maritime trade and military logistics. During the Second World War, the facilities here were managed by the San Francisco Port of Embarkation, serving as a primary hub for soldiers and supplies heading to the Pacific theater. While many other piers on the Embarcadero fell into disuse or were demolished after shipping operations moved to newer, deeper harbors, this structure remains as a preserved relic of the city's industrial past.
