The Memorial Church is marked by a vast, vibrant mosaic covering its entire front facade. Jane Stanford commissioned the building in nineteen oh three to honor her husband, Leland Stanford, following his death. While the rest of the campus was built with sandstone, she demanded the church serve as the architectural crown jewel of the university. Artisans from Venice created the intricate glass tiles that still shimmer above the entrance, depicting the Sermon on the Mount for everyone walking through the main quad.
