Arizona Garden

The Arizona Garden holds a ring of century-old cactus and succulents centered around a crumbling, mossy concrete fountain. Leland Stanford commissioned this desert garden in the eighteen eighties to landscape the grounds of his family estate. He brought in exotic plants from across the globe, hiring landscape architect Rudolph Ulrich to arrange them in geometric beds. The original garden fell into ruin after the nineteen oh six earthquake, left to grow wild for decades before volunteers restored the original Victorian layout in two thousand four.
