Allied Arts Guild

The Allied Arts Guild features walls of rough, hand-cast adobe and heavy timber gates that open into tiled courtyards. Philanthropists Delia Locke and Florence Thorne established this site in nineteen twenty-nine as a workspace for local craftspeople during the Great Depression. They wanted to provide a venue where artists could sell their pottery, weaving, and metalwork to support themselves. Today, the gardens remain quiet, and the complex still functions as a retreat for working artists, tucked behind dense, high hedges.
