William H. Reid House

The William H. Reid House features a distinctive, bowed limestone facade that curves gently toward the street, a rare design choice among the neighborhood's square-fronted townhomes. Built in eighteen ninety-four, the residence replaced a frame house with a heavy, Romanesque structure intended to convey the occupant's status as a prominent wholesale grocer. Architect Howard Van Doren Shaw designed the home, hiding the interior's expansive layout behind that modest, singular curve. Today, the building serves as a private residence, holding its original floor plan.
