The Hard Times Cafe features a painted mural covering its exterior wall, showcasing a sprawling, colorful collection of figures and patterns. This worker-owned cooperative has operated in this spot since nineteen seventy-five, serving coffee and vegetarian food around the clock for decades. It grew out of a countercultural desire to create a space run by employees without a traditional manager. People still crowd the mismatched tables at all hours, keeping the original spirit of the place alive through shifting neighborhood tides.
