The Red Sea Ethiopian Restaurant occupies a building marked by a distinctive, brightly painted exterior mural facing the corner of Cedar and Riverside avenues. Opened in nineteen eighty-seven, it became the first Ethiopian restaurant in Minneapolis. A young man named Russom Solomon started it after moving from Eritrea. He secured a small business loan to transform the space into a community hub. The restaurant serves traditional injera and stews, while the attached stage hosts local bands playing rock, punk, and jazz nightly.
