Ground Zero Gallery

Ground Zero Gallery began in nineteen eighty-three as a vital hub for the East Village art scene. Founded by artist James Romberger and his partner Marguerite Van Cook, the gallery served as an experimental launchpad for creators who were pushing the boundaries of traditional exhibition spaces. They prioritized installation art and multimedia works, often transforming their physical locations into immersive environments that challenged how audiences interacted with art. The gallery moved through several spaces in the East Village, including a notable spot on East Tenth Street that faced Tompkins Square Park, where they hosted performance events and premieres for underground films.
