Chelsea Waterside

Chelsea Waterside Park occupies a site with a long, industrial history that once saw a massive shift in the city landscape. In the early twentieth century, this land functioned as a freight yard for the Erie Railroad and sat right alongside the bustling ferry terminals that defined the Chelsea waterfront. The area was so central to commerce that the New York City Department of Docks acquired the parcel in 1907 to manage the flow of goods and people near the river.
