Vessel

The structure you are looking at, known as the Vessel, was designed by the British architect Thomas Heatherwick with the intention of being a social landmark that visitors could physically engage with. Instead of a traditional statue, he created an interactive, 150-foot-tall centerpiece composed of 154 interconnecting flights of stairs and 80 landings. The design draws inspiration from ancient Indian stepwells, using a repetitive, rhythmic geometry that allows people to climb nearly 2,500 individual steps. It was conceived to act as a vertical plaza, providing a space where the movement of people creates a living, changing spectacle at the heart of Hudson Yards.
