Broadway Theatre (41st Street)

The Broadway Theatre is one of the very few playhouses in the city that actually sits directly on the street named Broadway. Most other theaters in the district occupy the side streets, but this venue claims its spot right on the famous diagonal thoroughfare. It opened on Christmas Day in 1924, designed by architect Eugene De Rosa as a grand movie palace called the Colony Theatre. At the time of its construction, the project ballooned from an expected cost of three hundred fifty thousand dollars to a final price tag of two million dollars.
