Blue Note Jazz Club

The Blue Note Jazz Club opened its doors on September 30, 1981, inside a space that previously housed an Israeli nightclub called David's Harp. Its founder, Danny Bensusan, was an immigrant who had arrived in the United States from Israel in 1969 and initially worked as a local bartender. A chance encounter with a doorman named Harry Whiting at the historic Arthur's Tavern provided the inspiration for the name. Whiting suggested the title, and Bensusan successfully trademarked it just as the legendary record label of the same name had temporarily gone out of business.
