ABC No Rio

museum

ABC No Rio takes its name from a decaying neon sign that once hung in the window of the building. The sign originally read Abogado Con Notario, which is Spanish for lawyer and notary public. Over years of neglect, most of the neon letters burned out or fell away, leaving behind only the fragmented phrase ABC No Rio. The artists who moved into the space in 1980 decided to keep the mysterious, accidental name for their new community arts center.
