Robbins & Appleton Building

The Robbins and Appleton Building stands as a resilient example of the citys industrial past. You are looking at a structure built in eighteen seventy-nine to replace an identical building that burned to the ground just two years prior. The original tenants were the American Waltham Watch Company, which manufactured watch cases here on Bond Street. Their influence was so significant that they commissioned the same architect, Stephen Decatur Hatch, to reconstruct their headquarters immediately after the devastating fire. The result is a Second Empire style commercial palace defined by its ornate cast-iron facade and a distinctively striking mansard roof.
