Artists' Choice Museum

The Artists Choice Museum was a defiant experiment in institutional control that flourished in SoHo during the late nineteen seventies and early eighties. It began as a direct response to a common frustration among painters who felt the mainstream art world was increasingly dictated by critics and curators rather than by the creators themselves. In an act of self-reliance, a group of figurative artists founded the organization with a radical mission statement that insisted the museum be directed and curated entirely by artists.
