American Thread Building

The American Thread Building stands out for its distinct ornamental terra cotta facade featuring a series of stylized faces and intricate floral motifs. Designed by the firm Leadley and Simpson and completed in eighteen ninety six, this structure served as the headquarters for the American Thread Company. The building occupies a wedge shaped site created by the intersection of West Broadway and Beach Street, a challenging geometry that the architects resolved by creating a dramatic curved prow. This design decision gives the building a distinct visual weight and prominence on its corner lot, distinguishing it from the typical grid aligned warehouses of the era.
