Firehouse, Hook & Ladder Company 8

The firehouse at 14 North Moore Street is a working station for the New York City Fire Department, housing Ladder Company 8. It was constructed in 1903 as part of a series of Beaux-Arts style buildings designed by Alexander H. Stevens. The structure originally featured two large vehicle doors, but the building was sliced in half in 1913 to accommodate the widening of the adjacent Varick Street. This modification gives the firehouse its current, unique, and narrow appearance.
