Amster Yard

Amster Yard is a quiet, L-shaped sanctuary tucked behind an arched gateway on East 49th Street. Its story began in 1944 when interior designer James Amster discovered the property, which was then a dilapidated collection of structures including a former 19th-century boarding house and a carpenter's workshop. Amster saw potential in the abandoned cluster and transformed the space into a picturesque enclave of apartments, offices, and a lush central garden. His vision successfully blended the city's past with a new, creative residential community.
