East River Greenway

The East River Greenway in Two Bridges exists as a direct consequence of the massive infrastructure projects of the nineteen thirties. When the city began constructing the East River Drive, now known as the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Drive, it effectively severed the historic, industrial waterfront from the rest of the neighborhood. This greenway was conceived to reclaim that edge, transforming what was once a site of shipyards and ropewalks into a public corridor. The path here serves as a long, thin buffer that attempts to reconnect residents to the water, bridging the gap created by the highway that separates the city from its river.
