50 Kent - Bushwick Inlet Park

park garden

The ground beneath your feet at 50 Kent once held massive, circular gasometers. Beginning in the eighteen fifties, the Williamsburg Gas Light Company operated a facility here that stored manufactured coal gas in these towering storage tanks. The industrial legacy of this site was so intense that the soil required significant environmental remediation to remove toxic coal-tar remnants that extended more than twenty-five feet below the surface before the park could be built.
