Bartlett Playground

Bartlett Playground is named for Josiah Bartlett, a man who rose from humble beginnings as a shoemaker's son in Massachusetts to become a signer of the Declaration of Independence. As a representative for New Hampshire at the Continental Congress, he holds the distinction of being the first person to vote in favor of the resolution for American independence, a role he earned because the Congress traditionally called on the northernmost colony first. Beyond his revolutionary service, he acted as a physician, a chief justice, and eventually the first Governor of New Hampshire.
