Rabbi Joseph Weber Way

This street is co-named for Rabbi Joseph Weber, a Holocaust survivor who arrived in Williamsburg in 1953 and spent the rest of his life rebuilding the community. He served for forty years as a vice chair of the local community board, acting as a crucial bridge between the growing Chassidic population and city government. As a dedicated leader and askan, a term for a community activist, he was instrumental in establishing the foundations of the Pupa Chassidic group in New York. His efforts helped turn the neighborhood into the dense, organized center of Jewish life that exists here today.
