Bedford Playground

landmark

Bedford Playground stands on land that once belonged to the F. and M. Schaefer Brewing Company. In the early nineteen fifties, the brewing company held this property along the Williamsburg waterfront and sought to consolidate its facilities. The city eventually acquired the site through a land swap, trading it for other waterfront property owned by the Parks Department. This playground opened to the public in nineteen fifty-six, though it remained officially nameless for over three decades until it was designated Bedford Playground in nineteen eighty-seven.
