Heinz Memorial Chapel

The Heinz Memorial Chapel features vertical limestone walls that climb to pointed spires, drawing the eye upward against the surrounding university buildings. H.J. Heinz, the founder of the food company, originally planned the chapel before his death in nineteen nineteen. His children fulfilled his request twenty years later, commissioning architect Charles Klauder to design a sanctuary that would serve as an interdenominational space for the campus. Inside, the stained glass windows soar seventy-three feet high, depicting figures from art, science, and religion.
