Burleigh Heads Rock Pools

The Burleigh Heads rock pools form a natural, protected swimming enclosure carved directly into the dark volcanic basalt at the base of the headland. These stones are remnants of the Mount Warning shield volcano, which erupted twenty million years ago. While the surrounding surf breaks with heavy force, the rock pools offer a still, shallow basin where the tide cycles through the crevices. Locals gathered here for decades to bathe in the sheltered seawater, eventually formalizing the natural hollows with concrete masonry.
