Tumgun Lookout

The Tumgun Lookout sits at the end of the Oceanview Track, perched on a rocky outcrop that hangs over the southern edge of Burleigh Heads. The name comes from a local Aboriginal term for the scrub turkey, a bird still common in the surrounding forest. In the nineteen thirties, this area was a favorite spot for travelers who arrived by horse or early motorcar to watch the Pacific swell roll into the bay. It remains a thin strip of headland where the rainforest meets the sea.
