Lumbermen's Arch

The Lumbermen's Arch consists of four massive Douglas fir logs supporting a crossbeam covered by a cedar shake roof. It stands as a monument to the region's nineteenth century timber industry, originally built in nineteen twelve for a visit by the Duke of Connaught. When the Governor General arrived, he walked through this gateway draped in banners and greenery. A later version replaced the first in nineteen forty-seven, incorporating old growth wood harvested from the very forests that fueled Vancouver's early economy.
