Hallelujah Point

Hallelujah Point is a grassy knoll jutting into Burrard Inlet with a solitary totem pole standing against the skyline. It earned its name in the late nineteenth century when the Salvation Army held boisterous open-air religious services here for loggers and sailors arriving in Coal Harbour. These gatherings grew loud enough to disturb the city officials across the water. A city councilor once tried to ban the meetings, but the group simply moved their pulpit further down the shore to keep preaching.
