The Worker's Museum Werstas occupies the red-brick former cotton mill of the Finlayson factory complex in Tampere. Massive brick chimneys rise above the building, marking the heart of what was once the largest industrial site in the Nordic countries. In eighteen seventy-seven, a steam engine here powered the entire city of Tampere’s first electric lights. Thousands of workers once spent their lives within these walls, spinning cotton until the factory doors finally closed in the nineteen nineties.
