Paris Promenade

The Promenade Plantée, also known as the Coulée verte René-Dumont, runs atop a brick viaduct that rises thirty feet above the street. Before it became a garden, this structure carried heavy locomotives from the Bastille station into the heart of the city. Trains rattled along this elevated path for over a century until the line closed in nineteen sixty-nine. Engineers later reclaimed the abandoned railway, transforming the rusted tracks into a three-mile linear park filled with rosebushes, linden trees, and climbing ivy.
